A good tattoo depends on what happens before and after your appointment. Here are some tips to prepare for, and take care of your tattoo.

Preparing for you appointment

  • Please arrive well fed, well hydrated, and well rested. Go easy on the caffeine right before your appointmnet, if you need a cup of coffee in the morning, that’s ok

  • Wear comfortable clothes, as well as clothes with your tattoo placement in mind. For example, if your tattoo will be on your thigh, bring some shorts or loose pants that can be situated to access the area being tattooed

  • Bring a water bottle, and snacks if you’d like

  • Bring your I.D

  • You do not have to shave the area you are getting tattooed, I’ll be taking care of all the preparation in that department

  • Bring a friend if you’d like. I like to chat, as long as my client does, but if you’d like to bring someone with you that’s great!

  • Bring headphones if you prefer a quieter appointment. I usually have music or bird sounds playing, and feel free to request any music you would like!

Aftercare

  • Leave the protective wrap on your tattoo for 2 to 3 hours

  • Remove wrapping and wash with antibacterial soap such as Gold Dial. Pat dry with clean paper towels

  • Once you remove the wrapping, do not re-cover the tattoo with bandages, plastic wrap, or anything else

  • Wear loose, clean clothing over the tattoo

  • The next day, begin applying a thin layer of a water-based, preferably unscented moisturizer such as Cetaphil, or unscented Aveeno (though check the latter for wheat ingredients if you have an intolerance). It is critical to avoid over moisturizing your tattoo, you want it to breath

  • Continue to wash your tattoo with antibacterial soap in the morning and evening for the next 3 days

  • Itching and peeling may occur and is normal. Try to refrain from scratching your tattoo while it’s healing

  • Avoid soaking in tubs, hot tubs, pools, and natural bodies of water for 4 weeks

  • Always wear sunscreen; on your whole body and your tattoos
